Day 17 of Jaguars 2024 Training Camp has wrapped up at the Miller Electric Center practice fields, as the team today completed the second and final joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Here are today’s highlights, social media updates, and other observations from the field that you may have missed.
Practice notes:
Today was a lighter day than yesterday's full contact practice, with both teams wearing shells and shorts. Notably, without pads the Jaguars OL got much more push in today's practice, which may give support to Coach Pederson’s pre-practice comments on the scheme potentially giving the front a few issues in blocking.
"Now it’s a unique scheme. We haven’t seen it for a year, obviously. It’s the same one that we had here, so some of the pressure, and again, we’re not game planning or scheming anything. It’s just what we’re going against and kind of using our rules, but I thought overall they did some good things.”
With facing the front for a second day in a row and having film review of yesterday's practice the OL may be feeling slightly more comfortable in their rules to face this 3-4 front on day two. Nevertheless, there were no pads (only shells), so it may be impossible to draw any conclusions from today's positive performance up front.
The Jaguars defense got their hands on a significant number of Buccaneer passes today, ending the practice with 3 interceptions, a dropped Montaric Brown potential fourth interception, and many pass breakups. Two of these interceptions would have likely been returned for defensive touchdowns. The Jaguars’ defense has shown up in a big way in both days of joint practices.
Today’s players of note:
- Trevor Lawrence
Lawrence was really, really sharp on the day. He threw multiple touchdowns, put zero balls into harm's way, and moved the team down the field efficiently in the 2-minute drill period. 7 of 8 in the 11-on-11 periods, including multiple splash plays. A clean, efficient QB day with no turnovers, for the second day in a row for Trevor is all the fanbase could ask for.
- Brian Thomas Jr

BTJ reeled in multiple later catches, including a 20 to 25-yard sideline reception where the Bucs CB Jamel Dean was forced to overplay him and respect his speed. He then followed that up with a 20-yard catch in the 2-minute drill period. I've seen enough folks. Put him in bubble wrap for the rest of the preseason.
- Evan Engram
Engram had a busy day with 3 catches in the first two 11-on-11 periods. One catch was a touchdown in redzone with another longer catch in the following period.

- Brenton Strange
In a pretty busy day for all Jaguars tight ends, Strange brought in a longer Lawrence, 35-to-40-yard catch across the field in the following period after Engram.
- Josiah Deguara
Not to be outdone by his counterparts, Deguara showed up with multiple impressive, fingertip catches in today's joint practice. He started off with a nice sideline catch in the early 11-on-11 period, then followed that up with a diving grab in the 2-minute drill for the first down.
- Gabe Davis
Another day, another intermediate level catch from Gabe Davis who continues to simply own the middle of the field since his addition to the team. He later caught another highly contested catch in the non-recorded 11-on-11 period and a sideline catch in 2-minute drill.

- Jarrian Jones
Jones had two pass breakups (PBUs) in the 11-on-11 redzone period and added another impressive PBU in the full field 11-on-11 period.

He did give up the below TD in the redzone period, so it wasn't a perfect day. However, it was a really good day for the rookie CB.

- S Erick Hallett II
Hallet provided tight coverage on a shorter completion by Buccaneers WR Mike Evans, then later followed it up with an interception of backup Bucs QB Kyle Trask. The pass was thrown behind the WR and Erick showed great awareness to see and corral the inaccurate pass. He then returned a later interception for a touchdown, where LB Devin Lloyd tipped another Kyle Trask pass into the air with Hallett coming down with it.

Other Notes:
- Cam Little
Little had a near-perfect day going 5 of 6 on his field goals, with a miss from 40 yards and a long of around 50.
- Josh Hines-Allen
While the teams were in shells, it's always notable when Tristian Wirfs is moved.

Hines-Allen later beat Wirfs in their 1-on-1 pass rush matchup also.

- Montaric (Buster) Brown
Brown nearly intercepted Mayfield on this deeper throw in the non-recorded period a few plays before Hallett's second interception.

Brown did give up a Kyle Trask TD throw to Trey Palmer a few plays earlier. He nearly got his revenge here, however.
- Tank Bigsby
Nothing much, just your daily Bigsby highlight. The second-year RB continues to put it all together in 2024.

Injury Updates:
- DT Arik Armstead was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list on Tuesday evening. It would seem he is recovered from his offseason meniscus surgery. However, he did not practice today and is not expected to play on Saturday.
- LB Ventrell Miller practiced in full while wearing the red non-contact jersey today, likely due to his broken hand.
- LG Ezra Cleveland returned to practice yesterday from his ankle/heel injury he sustained a week ago. He and Blake Hance continued to rotate snaps at guard today as he works himself back.
- RB/RS Keilan Robinson was not in practice from his toe sprain sustained in OTAs. He was wearing a walking boot yesterday on the side.
- TE Patrick Murtagh did not practice after breaking his ankle a week ago. No roster moves have been made to date to indicate the team’s next steps.
- S Andrew Wingard again missed practice due to the “significant” knee injury he sustained two weeks ago. No roster moves have been made to date to indicate the team’s next steps. However, Coach Pederson on Monday provided an expectation that Wingard would likely be out approximately 6-7 weeks.
- S Darnell Savage practiced in full while still wearing the non-contact red jersey today. The team previously said they would be cautious during his recovery from a 2023 torn rotator cuff.
- S Daniel Thomas has a heel issue where the team is holding him out at this time as a precautionary move
- WR Christian Kirk has a mild calf situation, per coach Pederson. As such, the team held him out. He is currently day to day.
