Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts III has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the New York Jets, the team announced on Friday. Shorts suffered a concussion against the Buffalo Bills last week, leaving the game early and then missing practice all week.
Shorts passed his concussion test prior to Wednesday's practice, but has still been dealing with concussion related symptoms and has been held out. It's a big loss for the Jaguars offense, as Shorts has been the team's best offensive player in 2012, leading the team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.
Related: Justin Blackmon will need to step up
With Shorts out of the lineup, rookie wide receiver Justin Blackmon will be the go-to receiver with nothing but rookies and newly signed receivers on the depth chart. Outside of undrafted rookie Kevin Elliott, the other receivers on the roster have all been added to the team within the last three weeks.
It might wind up being a tough day passing the ball against a top ranked Jets pass defense, more so now that the Jaguars No. 1 receiving target is out.
