The Jacksonville Jaguars had their best game of the Dave Caldwell era and by giving up just two sacks, the offensive line is looking to have their best season as well in terms of pass protection.

Who was responsible for each sack on Sunday? Let's get to it.

Sack #1: 2nd-and-12 at JAX 13, 1:18 left in 1Q

The Titans took advantage of the Jaguars using their fourth option at left guard this season in Tyler Shatley. It’s a well-designed stunt that moves Shatley too far to the right and Chris Ivory doesn’t hit his block on the blitzing linebacker.

Verdict: Chris Ivory

Sack #2: 1st-and-10 at TEN 38, 4:45 left in 2Q

Not even a question, Tyler Shatley gets outworked here and Blake Bortles is the victim of a team needing some help along their offensive line.

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie cornerback Jalen Ramsey has won the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his play against the Tennessee Titans. Ramsey had another career game against the Titans, recording yet another interception — which he returned for a touchdown. He also had four defended passes, and four tackles in yesterday’s game. PFF gave him a 92.8 grade for the game, the highest grade out of all Jaguars players.

Ramsey has already been considered a shut-down cornerback this season by teams and national analysts, and considering the impact he’s had over the past two games, he’s most certainly improving his stock for the Defensive Rookie of the Year. As of right now, I’d say his only competition is San Diego Chargers pass rusher Joey Bosa.

The Jacksonville Jaguars came out on Christmas Eve at EverBank Field and gave all Jaguars fans an early Christmas present. Not only did the team blow out their division rival in the Tennessee Titans, but they also essentially knocked the Titans out of the NFL playoffs, putting them in a position where they needed a lot of help in the evening game and in Week 17. Thankfully, the Houston Texans won and sealed the division, officially eliminating the Titans, but the Jaguars got the assist.

The most shocking thing on Saturday wasn’t really that the Jaguars won, but the manner in which they did it. The team marched down the field on their opening drive and effortlessly scored a touchdown. It was only the second time the team had scored on an opening drive in about two seasons. The Jaguars looked like a completely different team, even in comparison to how they looked in London beating the Colts. There was no feeling of dread with a comeback on the horizon, even when the Titans pulled the score to 10-7, which was the closest the game ever got.

Here are three things that stood out to me that Doug Marrone did differently that made a big difference.

Lead up to the game

Marrone had the Jaguars do their final walk through practice in EverBank Field, rather than the practice fields. I don’t know if this really makes a difference, but Marrone does and the team was the most comfortable they’ve looked in quite a while on Saturday, so it obviously made some kind of difference, right? Marrone said late in the week he said it felt it gave the team a sense of familiarity and comfort, because the game situations that came up on Sunday in the stadium wouldn’t be any different than what they practiced in the walk through.

Being vocal with players

The very first thing I noticed about Marrone watching the game was he was very vocal with the players on the sideline. Often people said Bradley was too nice and they wanted someone to scream and get in faces on the sideline, but that wasn’t what Marrone did. For instance, when rookie defensive lineman Sheldon Day got a personal foul, Marrone pulled him to the sideline and spoke with him. He did grab his facemask and scream or bench him the rest of the game, as Day was the one who sacked Marcus Mariota on the play he got hurt, but he pulled Day over and had a word with him. You could also see Marrone going to each unit before they took the field and speak with them. I can’t recall Gus Bradley really doing this ever during his tenure, but it seemed to help the players keep focused on the task.

He was aggressive

One of the biggest issues with the Jaguars under Gus Bradley was they were aggressive on offense, but not really. They would do things like go for it on fourth down, but follow it up with really conservative play calling. Marrone did have the benefit of the team is 2-12, so there’s not really anything to lose in being aggressive, but he kept the pedal down nearly the whole game. Even when the team was up multiple scores, the offense was still aggressive and trying to score points and put the game out of reach. Previously it felt like whenever the Jaguars had a lead, they’d turtle up and just try to stifle the other team’s offense, which usually resulted in the defense finally breaking and surrendering the lead.

It will be interesting to see how things turn out in the regular season finale against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday on the road. Can this Jaguars team show up again? Will Marrone go 2-0 and force himself as a real candidate for the position?

Three hours ago, Blake Bortles had never won a game with the Jacksonville Jaguars while also throwing for 300 yards. He had 44 career games coming into this game — 10 of which were 300-yard efforts — and he was a lowly 0-10.

Enter offensive mastermind Doug Marrone.

Bortles finished the day going 26-for-38 for 325 yards and two touchdowns — one passing, one receiving. (No, really.)

And for the first time in his career, a 300-yard game was also met with a victory.

In the last home game of the year, the Jacksonville Jaguars hoped to win at home for the first time in a year, and play spoiler against the hated Tennessee Titans.

In the last home game of the year, the Jacksonville Jaguars hoped to win at home for the first time in a year, and play spoiler against the hated Tennessee Titans.

The game couldn't have started any better for the Jaguars, as a couple of Allen Robinson catches helped lead the Jaguars down the field. Bortles would cap off the drive with a back shoulder pass to Marqise Lee, who would score his third touchdown the season, as the Jaguars took a 7-0 lead.

After forcing the Titans to go three and out on the following drive, the Jaguars would drive down the field once again. However, they would be held short of the end-zone, as Jason Myers would cap off their 11-play, 63-yard drive with a 29 yard field goal, giving the Jaguars a 10-0 lead.

After punts by both teams on their next drives, the Titans would finally get on the board, as some solid runs by DeMarco Murray and a roughing the passer penalty helped set up a Titans touchdown. Marcus Mariota would throw a 3 yard touchdown to Rishard Matthews, cutting the lead to 10-7.

The Jaguars would respond with their longest timed drive of the year, as they took 7:02 to drive down the field and extend their lead. Chris Ivory would plow in the end zone on first-and-goal from the goal line to score. However, Myers would miss the extra point, only giving the Jaguars a 16-7 lead.

After forcing another Titans three and out, the Jaguars would try to extend their lead at the end of the half. They would just miss the chance at a touchdown, as Allen Robinson almost made the catch of the year on a jump ball, but failed to bring it in. The Jaguars would settle for a field goal though, and take a 19-7 lead into the half.

After forcing the Titans do go three and out to start the second half, the Jaguars hoped to once again extend the lead and start to put the Titans away. Unfortunately, that would not happen as Chris Ivory would fumble the ball, giving the Titans the ball at the Jaguars 26-yard line.

The defense would hold up after the turnover, as they would once again force the Titans to go three and out, forcing them into a 42-yard field goal to cut the lead to 19-10.

The Jaguars would respond with a field goal of their own after a 10-play, 37-yard drive. Myers would this time hit a 56-yard field goal, which probably had enough leg on it to make it over 60 yards. This would notch the score at 22-10.

After another Titans three and out, the Jaguars would once again drive into Titans territory. It looked like the Jaguars would once again get in the red-zone, as Bortles hit Lee on a drag route across the middle for 21 yards. However, Jermey Parnell would be flagged for hands to the face, pushing the Jaguars back to the 33 yard line. The Jaguars would settle for a field goal once again, extending their lead to 25-10.

With under a minute left in the third quarter, Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota would go down with an ankle injury, and would be replaced by Matt Cassel.

In somewhat of a desperation mode in the beginning of the 4th quarter, the Titans were able to drive down the field with a eight-play, 50 yard drive that ended in a 14-yard touchdown form Cassel to Delanie Walker to cut the Jaguars lead to 25-17.

The Jaguars would respond with another nice drive of their own, this helped again by two big gains on Allen Robinson catches. The Jaguars would pull some trickery to score a touchdown, as Marqise Lee would throw a touchdown to Blake Bortles (yes you read that right!) and Bortles pitched it back to Lee out of the shotgun who would run the other way as the defense shifted toward Lee and then throw a lob pass to Bortles that led him into the end zone. Myers would once again missed the extra point, only giving the Jaguars a 31-17 lead.

The game would be sealed on the Titans' next drive. Cassel would throw a pick six to Jalen Ramsey, which would mark his first interception for a touchdown for his career, and extend the Jaguars lead to 38-17.

The game would end in 38-17 score, as the Jaguars would end their nine-game losing streak, and get their third win of the year.

It’ll be interesting to see how that plays out in the interview. Incumbent general manager Dave Caldwell has a bias for his guy in Bortles to succeed and doesn’t want to have a quarterback competition in training camp, no matter what he says in press conferences.

We’ll update as soon as we get updates out of the Coughlin interview next week.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have reportedly hired Jed Hughes of Korn Ferry International to help spearhead their search for a new head coach after meeting with him Wednesday, according to Adam Schefter and Mike DiRocco of ESPN.

Initially, Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell only mentioned himself, owner Shad Khan, Senior VP of Analytics Tony Khan, and President Mark Lamping as those who would help with the search. Obviously that’s search party has grown.

For those who don’t know, Korn Ferry is an organizational and people advisory firm and the world's largest provider of executive search and Jed Hughes is an incredibly connected man in the sports world. He’s a former coach himself who will take a more corporate route when choosing the next head coach of the Jaguars.

So, what is Dave Caldwell doing all this? Isn’t he supposed to be leading this search?

Well, first, you should be glad he has less autonomy this go around. Do you want Gus Bradley Jr?

Second, Khan has always been about doing things in a new way and I bet he’s far more comfortable with an executive search firm finding his new head coach than how it happened in 2013.

A move to Jed Hughes and Korn Ferry also signals that Khan may have more input in the process, or at least more input in building the framework of how the process unfolds. That tends to happen when you make an important hire at the onset of a new venture and it turns out to be one of the worst hires in your industry’s history at that position.

The Jaguars have already garnered an “overwhelming” response to their head coaching vacancy. Candidates already include former Jaguars and Giants coach Tom Coughlin, former Falcons coach and current Buccaneers defensive coordinator Mike Smith, former Chiefs coach and current Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley, former Broncos coach and current Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, former Rams coach and current Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, and Bills offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn — but that’s sure to grow over the coming days and weeks.

Listen to Hughes talk about the process of hiring a general manager in baseball here. I bet his thoughts translate to front office and coaching searches in other sports.
