The Jaguars swept the Texans on Thursday Night football, but how did some of the players grade out in Pro Football Focus' advanced grading?

We haven't done it in a while, mostly because it was just so depressing to look at the grades from Pro Football Focus each week, but since the bye week the Jacksonville Jaguars have looked like a different team. Such as, we'll take a look once again at the advanced grades and see who's playing well and who's not.

Who fared well:

Paul Poslusnzy, LB: Poz had arguably his best game of the season, even though he got lost in coverage a few times against the Houston Texans tight ends. He finished the day with a +2.5 overall grade, the highest of any Jags defender on the day, which was carried by his +2.8 run defense grade. He ended the day with 13 tackles and 6 "stops" (solo defensive tackle which constitutes an offensive failure).

Tyson Alualu, DE: Even though some local media and fans want to cut Alualu, the fact is he's a perfect fit in the Jaguars defensive scheme and does his role well. Alualu was the second highest graded defensive player against the Texans, but oddly enough his +1.4 overall grade was carried by his +1.2 pass rushing grade. Alualu picked up two QB hits and 2 hurries on the night. Even though he doesn't show up on the stat sheet like some people want, he's a big reason why the Jaguars rush defense has been so good since the bye week.

Cameron Bradfield, LT: When Eugene Monroe was traded and Luke Joeckel went down for the season four days later, Jags fans were in a state of panic about an already bad offensive line. To their credit however, Bradfield and Austin Pasztor have stepped up admirably. Bradfield on Thursday finished with the second highest offensive grade at +1.9, carried by his +1.8 pass blocking grade. He gave up just a single QB hurry going up against a tough defensive front.

Who didn't fare so well:

Will Rackley, RG: It's no surprise once again Rackley was the worst graded Jaguars player on Thursday, but I'll defend him a little bit. I think since he's comeback from injury his play has improved dramatically. He's still not "good", but he hasn't been an absolute train wreck like he was earlier in the season. He's still making mistakes, but they're not as prominent as they once were. Rackley ended the game with a -4.5 rating, most of that coming from his -4.4 pass blocking score where he gave up two hurries and a hit.

Dwayne Gratz, CB: While I personally think Grazt played solid on Thursday Night, PFF didn't grade him out so well. He ended up with a -2.9 overall grade, likely getting dinged for a lot of Andre Johnson's production in the second half, even though a lot of his receptions were made over the middle on drag routes and the like. Grade-wise, it was Gratz's worst game of the year.

Thoughts: The Jaguars saw a lot of rotation between Jeremy Mincey and Tyson Alualu with Mincey's return, which is no surprise. On the LEO side of things we saw a lot more double LEO looks and sometimes looks with all three of the LEO ends on the field at once. As the season has gone on, Gus Bradley and Bob Babich have been more creative up front.

Thoughts: The absence of Josh Evans made the Jaguars play more corners in their nickel sets than they've been doing, but luckily Will Blackmon was back so it wasn't much of an issue.
Thoughts: The Jaguars backfield had their most productive day yet, despite the fact that both Maurice Jones-Drew and Jordan Todman left the game with injuries. Luckily for the Jaguars it happened late in the game when it didn't really matter, but there were a number of explosive runs against the Texans.

Thoughts: The snap distribution at the tight end position is no surprise, with Lewis getting the lion's share. This go-round however Lewis was actually used more in the passing game and it paid off big time with some of his contested catches.

Thoughts: With Mike Brown back in the lineup after missing with injury, the snap distribution here is no surprise. Brown and Shorts started the majority of the formations as the outside receiver with Ace Sanders in half the time in the slot or in the backfield.

With their eleventh loss in a row on Thursday Night Football, the Houston Texans have fired head coach Gary Kubiak.

The Houston Texans have fired head coach Gary Kubiak after the Texans 27-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football, as first reported by Jay Glazer of FOX Sports. The Texans have confirmed the firing with an official release.

"The last straw was losing. We've got a lot more talent than Jacksonville, but they played better and smarter," Texans owner Bob McNair said at the press conference announcing Kubiak's firing.

The Texans were tabbed by many as a favorite to not only win the AFC South, but make the Super Bowl in 2013. After starting out the season 2-0 they have gone on to lose 11 straight games, including being swept by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Kubiak finished his tenure with the Texans with a 61-64 record with only three winning seasons, making the playoffs twice.

Wade Phillips will be the interim head coach through the end of the season.

Read what Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley and Jaguars players had to say following their third straight win.

Gus Bradley on the team gaining confidence:

"I think our guys are transferring over to where they’re using external things that motivate them to where it’s becoming more internally. I can see that happening to them and I think when you get motivated more internally you gain more confidence, and I think situations like the Cleveland game to make the drive like we did, this game, even the last four or five games we’ve had some different situations come up in the game; that two minute drive, or we have to go on offense or defense is on, whatever the case it helps. We talked a couple weeks ago about it validates what we’re doing. It really is a credit to our players for what they’ve gone through and to stick to it and have some results go their way, it’s pretty cool."

Ace Sanders on what's changed since the beginning of the season:

"We’re in a completely new stage or rebuilding process and with that it comes time, it would have been special if we could have jump started the season like this but sometimes it takes time; we’ve got the people in here that are willing to wait it out, keep battling and keeping their heads up and like I said it’s starting to pay off."

Jonathan Cyprien on if the switch at QB for Houston changed this:

"It definitely did, they put him (Matt Schuab) in at the end of the game and he started to get kind of hot we didn’t prepare too much for him but he came out there and put the ball in his playmakers hands, he did a great job and I give him all the praise."

Dwayne Gratz on the defense starting to make plays:

"It goes and to hand with the coverage and the rush; we call it rush and cover but when they get to the Quarterback it makes it harder for him to sit back there and pick us apart but it goes hand to hand when they rush we’re making plays and when they attack the Quarterback they getting sacks so that’s a good thing."

Chad Henne on if he coached Ace Sanders on his passing play:

"No, all week he’s been doing a really good job and I asked him, ‘Are you patting the ball back there and waiting for the pass or what?’ He made a heck of a throw and (Jordan) Todman made a heck of a catch. It was a great situation to call that play. We call it ‘Gamecock’ for Ace because he played at South Carolina."

Maurice Jones-Drew on getting a home win:

"It is exciting. It sucks to win on the road and not be able to do it here at home. One of the things we have been harping on this week was to go out there and not make it too big, but understand the importance of it. The guys made some big plays. We had guys step up. We just want to continue to win at home and make this a home field advantage and get the crowd into it so people have tough times like we have when we’re away."

Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew was knocked out of Thursday's game with a hamstring injury.

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew seemed to get into a groove and look like his former self against the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football, but left the game early on an awkward fall and appears to have hurt his hamstring.

Jones-Drew broke a tackle on one of his runs and stepped awkwardly, making it look like a non-contact knee injury initially, but after the game told reporters it was his hamstring and he would be ready to play against the Buffalo Bills next week.

Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley in his Friday press conference confirmed it was a hamstring injury, but the team will know more after Jones-Drew has an MRI on his leg.
