Two players on the Bengals roster to keep an eye on during primetime.

In the Jacksonville Jaguars' first Monday night football home game in over 10 years, the team will take on a familiar primetime foe in the Cincinnati Bengals.

One of the biggest stories in the NFL this year has been the constant injuries to quarterbacks that have completely derailed the team’s season. Unfortunately, the Bengals are victims of this unfortunate circumstance. Joe Burrow had injuries to start the year but was officially injured for the remainder of the season following the Bengals' Thursday night loss to the Ravens. It’s extremely unfortunate that it played out this way, because a quarterback matchup between Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence would be a must-see on TV and could help the Jaguars' defense improve against elite-level quarterbacks -- something they will have to continue to do if a postseason run is in their future.

Despite this injury, and while I don’t want to downplay its significance, Burrow doesn’t make the tackles, catch the touchdowns, or run the ball. Football is probably the most popular team sport in the world, and there are still great players on this team. In this article, I will highlight one player on the offense and one player on the defense on this stout Bengals team to look out for.

First, the offensive side of the ball. While most people think I will say Ja’Marr Chase, there is something a little different I would like to highlight. This Jaguars secondary is very good, and with no Burrow, the Bengals will have trouble getting the ball to Chase. Though he had 81 yards against the Steelers, Chase only caught 4 passes, one of his lowest marks on the season. The Jaguars do a good job at group tackling and will be able to limit his production.

For me, the offensive player to watch is running back Joe Mixon. While he too had injuries to start the year, Mixon’s health is improving, and Cincinnati will look to him to carry most of the load tonight.

Josh Allen and Travon Walker have been consistently getting to quarterbacks and causing lots of pressure, but the running game is where they will focus more of their attention. Jake Browning is the quarterback for the Bengals, and he will be brought down without having to bring pressure -- there will most definitely be lots of coverage sacks. Primetime games are usually low-scoring, which means the running game should be in full effect for this Bengals offense. Since Week 7, the Jaguars rank 30th in rushing Expected Points Added (EPA) per play. If the Jaguars want to control this game early, the opposing rushing attack will need to be stopped.

While no one defensively really stands out to me on this Bengals team, that does not mean this is a cakewalk. This defense plays as a team, tackles very well, and takes advantage of mistakes made by the offense.

One player to highlight would be nose tackle D.J. Reader. While he’s having a down year compared to previous accomplished seasons, Reader is still a force to be reckoned with. Although Etienne is good to go for Monday Night Football, the Jaguars will have to rotate through running backs to keep fresh legs in the game, or Reader will make his presence known.

This Bengals team has most definitely been hit with the injury bug this game, and that is unfortunate because this game would be a must-see on TV. Despite the Burrow injury, this Bengals team still has players all over the field, and if the Jaguars want to win this game, they will have to focus on taking the players mentioned in this article out of the game.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to take on the Cincinnati Bengals for their first Monday Night Football Game in twelve years. Here are three X-factors for a Jags victory on prime-time.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are playing in their first Monday Night Football Game in over a decade tonight, as they host the Cincinnati Bengals for a battle of the big cats.

The Jags are coming off a huge road victory over the Houston Texans where they took a commanding lead atop the AFC South and are hoping to continue that momentum this evening. A victory tonight would give them eight wins in their last nine games and would keep the team alive in the race for the AFC’s top seed.

The Cincinnati Bengals might not be the same type of threat without Joe Burrow, but they still have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball that could present problems for Jacksonville if they don’t come to play.

In fact, the Bengals get a significant piece of their offense back this week as Tee Higgins is set to return to the lineup after missing the last three games with a quad injury. He and Ja’Marr Chase are one of the best receiving duos in the NFL today and will look to make things easier for Jake Browning and a Cincinnati offense that is desperate for a win right now.

On paper, the Jaguars (-8.5) should win this one going away but anything can happen in the National Football League so they will need some big performances from key areas if they’re going to put on a show in prime-time. Here are the three biggest X-factors for a Jags victory tonight.

Josh Allen

Josh Allen is having one of the best years a Jaguars pass rusher has ever had. Through eleven games, Allen has 12 sacks and is on pace to shatter Calais Campbell’s franchise sack record of 14.5.

The impact he’s made on the Jacksonville defense this season can’t be overstated, and he should, at the very least, be in the discussion for Defensive Player of the Year. While his odds are still long for that honor, he has a prime opportunity tonight to gain some ground.

He will be getting after an inexperienced quarterback in Jake Browning, who has been sacked seven times in just six and a half quarters of play since replacing Joe Burrow.

Pair that with the fact that the Bengals are dead last in the NFL in rushing, and you have the makings of yet another big night for the unquestioned MVP of the Jacksonville defense.

Ezra Cleveland

The Ezra Cleveland trade just before the deadline has suddenly become huge for the Jacksonville Jaguars offense.

With Cam Robinson now on IR with a knee injury he suffered against Houston, Walker Little returns to his more natural position at left tackle. This allows Cleveland to replace Little at left guard; a spot that has plagued the Jags with inconsistency all season.

Cleveland’s inclusion on that offensive line resulted in arguably the group’s most complete performance of the season against the Texans. They allowed zero sacks and just four pressures as Trevor Lawrence tallied a season-high 364 yards, with 42 of them coming off a screen pass where Cleveland led the way for a D’Ernest Johnson highlight reel play.

Now, with a full week of reps with the starters, Cleveland should play a big role yet again on Monday night. His reliability in both the pass and run game will be a significant factor in the success of the offense against a Cincinnati defense with a lot of talent on their front four.

Press Taylor

Jacksonville offensive coordinator Press Taylor is set to duel with his big brother Zac tonight in a brotherly battle of offensive minds in the AFC.

The two haven’t faced off since 2020 when Press and Doug Pederson were together in Philadelphia. In that one, the Eagles and Bengals finished the game in a rare 23 to 23 tie, so this game gives them an opportunity to solve that unfinished business.

With the injury to Joe Burrow, Zac Taylor’s offense hasn’t been humming like we’ve become accustomed to. They currently rank 27th in total offense per game and 23rd in scoring offense. Meanwhile, Press’s offense, under the guidance of Pederson, is 13th and 10th respectively in those areas.

While the circumstances are unfortunate for Cincinnati heading into this prime-time contest, this is a big opportunity for Press to outshine his brother as he works to prove he has a future as a head coach in this league. Don’t be surprised if Press reaches deep into his bag of tricks in a game that could become a chess match of offensive play-calling on Monday Night Football.

Everything you need to know to watch the Jaguars take on the Bengals in Week 13.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are on another little winning streak and will hope that continues against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football. It will be the first time the Jaguars have been on Monday Night Football in over a decade, but sitting at 8-3 and double-digit favorites, the Jaguars will hope to push their way closer to double digit wins and pushing for the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

On the other side the Bengals are riding a three-game losing streak into Jacksonville and coming up against a defense that has been smothering opposing teams and creating havoc in the backfield against opposing quarterbacks. Jack Browning might be in for a rough night against the Jaguars front seven, as Browning has been sacked seven times in his last three games.

The Jaguars decided to go for two points when they scored late in the game on Sunday against the Bengals, and it was a mistake.

Early in the fourth quarter the Jacksonville Jaguars scored a touchdown to pull within 10 points of the Cincinnati Bengals. Rookie quarterback Blake Bortles connected with rookie receiver Allen Hurns for a second time on an 18-yard pass, putting the score at 26-16. The Jaguars quickly lined up for a two-point conversion.

And that was a mistake.

While the play call was fine and Cecil Shorts III should have caught Bortles' pass, making it 26-18, it was still way too early to go for two points in the game.

If the Jaguars had simply kicked their extra point and made it 26-17, when the scored a touchdown less than two minutes later after an Andy Dalton interception, they would have been within a field goal of taking the lead rather than within range for a tie.

What the Jaguars did by going for two was put themselves in a situation where they either would have had to go for two later on in the game, or they would have had to score a touchdown to win, rather than a field goal. This isn't a reaction to hindsight because Shorts dropped the pass, either. It's just simply looking ahead.

Typically going for two ends up biting you in the butt, unless you're doing it on an opening touchdown drive or when you're forced to do it. It ends up forcing your hand later in the game if you go for it too early.

Let's take a quick look at yesterday's Jaguars vs. Bengals game where young players got snaps in place of backups, especially on defense.

The Jacksonville Jaguars lost 33-23 to the Cincinnati Bengals, and with several key members of the defense out because of injury, it gave us a good look at some of the younger backups.

Thanks to the good people at Pro Football Focus for helping to compile this information for us.

Offense - 64 snaps

Quarterback: Blake Bortles (64)

Running backs: Denard Robinson (38), Toby Gerhart (21), Will Ta'ufo-ou (14), and Jordan Todman (7).

Wide receivers: Allen Robinson (56), Allen Hurns (55), Cecil Shorts III (53), and Marqise Lee (7).

Offensive line: Zane Beadles (64), Luke Bowanko (64), Austin Pasztor (64), Luke Joeckel (64), Jacques McClendon (50), and Brandon Linder (14).

Tight ends: Clay Harbor (52) and Nic Jacobs (17)

The Jaguars are using Jordan Todman less and Toby Gerhart more than in previous weeks, and Gerhart hasn't gotten this many snaps since Week 4 against the San Diego Chargers. Marqise Lee's lack of snaps is concerning, but the even distribution between the top three of Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, and Cecil Shorts III is encouraging.

Defense - 69 snaps

Defensive linemen: Chris Clemons (50), Sen'Derrick Marks (45), Roy Miller (40), Red Bryant (35), Tyson Alualu (34), Ziggy Hood (26), Abry Jones (16), Ryan Davis (21), and Chris Smith (10)

Linebackers: J.T. Thomas (69), Geno Hayes (36), Telvin Smith (33), LaRoy Reynolds (24), and Jeremiah George (12).

Secondary: Johnathan Cyprien (69), Dwayne Gratz (68), Demetrius McCray (68), Josh Evans (62), and Sherrod Martin (41).

J.T. Thomas has played every defensive snap for two games in a row, which is just one game away from how many times Paul Posluszny did it before getting injured in Week 7. Also, the snap count was far more evenly distributed among the top three defensive linemen than it was last week. The secondary only used five defensive backs all game, as opposed to six last week.

While the Jaguars lost again in gut wrenching fashion, but former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson is blossoming into an NFL running back.

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Denard Robinson was trying to put together his third straight 100-yard rushing game in the NFL, falling just six yards shy. He once again however, provided the Jaguars offense with a steady running attack and some explosive plays.

Late in the first quarter Robinson burst through the line on a 38-yard gain that looked like he was close to taking it all the way to the endzone. Robinson had a few more runs over 10 yards, including one that would have gone for more yards had he not lost his footing trying to make a cut and he once again found the endzone.

Robinson ended the day with over 100 yards total offense, but it's nice to see a player than many wrote off based on his rookie season finally emerging as a playmaker on the offense. Robinson has 423 rushing yards on the season, averaging 5.0 yards per carry. He needs just 577 yards the rest of the way to be the Jaguars first 1,000 rusher in quite some time.

If the offensive line can continue to play like they have the past few weeks, it's entirely possible he could hit that mark. Denard just needs to average 82 yards per game over the final seven games of the season.

The Jaguars rookie quarterback was favoring his wrist towards the end of the 33-23 loss, but it doesn't look serious.

The Jacksonville Jaguars lost 33-23 to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, and afterwards quarterback Blake Bortles had to have his wrist looked at by team trainers.

According to Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union, Bortles had his throwing wrist looked at after the game, but it shouldn't be anything that will put the team in jeopardy of losing him for next week's game against the Dallas Cowboys in London.
