Introducing the Big Cat Country Fat Cat Award -- recognizing big guys making big plays for the Jaguars.

Typically I would hand out game balls for the previous game today, but looking around the World Wide Web, I noticed game balls are kind of a bland award.

The new rage is rewarding the unheralded big guys (not Ryback, he is bad). There's the Piesman Trophy that SB Nation is now doing and Stephen White gives out his Hoss Of The Week awards. So, I thought to myself as a fat guy, I too, would like to recognize the big guys.

So I am happy to introduce the Big Cat Country Fat Cat Award. Each week, I’ll hand out the award to one of the big uglies in the trenches for the Jacksonville Jaguars. It may not be the person with the best stat line or who made the best plays, but someone who made an impact in my eyes on the field.

So, the inaugural winner of the award for 2015 is going to be defensive lineman Jared Odrick.

Odrick meshed together a nice stat line and having a general overall impact on the game. As he said, it was personal for him going against the team who saw it fit to let him walk in free agency and he made them pay for it. Odrick was a nuisance most of the game, but in the second half he began taking advantage of the Dolphins offensive tackle filling in for Branden Albert.

He capped off the day with a sack that forced a fumble nearly recovered for a safety or touchdown, as well as batting a pass in the end zone.

Jared Odrick is your Fat Cat for Week 2.

After a great win on Sunday against the Dolphins, filled with awesome plays that showcased both sides of the ball, Pro Football Focus handed out their weekly grades... and they aren't so pretty.

The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed a win against the Miami Dolphins that rejuvenated this franchise and fan base. I don't think there are too many other ways to describe it. I went to my girlfriend's house to watch the game with her, hoping that maybe she (and the amazing quéso and chips she bought me from Moe's) would be a good luck charm...

I will now be at her house every Sunday for the rest of the season.

The Jaguars kept me on the edge of my seat and jumping in the air throughout the majority of the game. The offense was electric in the first half and was clutch in the two-minute drill at the end of the fourth quarter, marching down the field and setting up kicker Jason Myers with an opportunity to kick the potential game-winning field goal. Myers prevailed, and the Jaguars held the lead to win the game.

One extra-positive note: The Jaguars did not let up a single sack for the first time in 25 games. Whew.

The defense looked stellar the whole game. They put a ton of pressure on Ryan Tannehill (37% of his drop backs were pressured), held the Dolphins to one touchdown, and allowed only 42 rushing yards, with Tannehill being the Dolphins leading rusher, with 17 yards.

Sounds great right?

Well, not in the eyes of Pro Football Focus.

Last week, when I wrote on how PFF graded Zane Beadles as the best player on the Jaguars offense and I appreciated their grades. However, this week, Pro Football Focus' grades leave me questioning which game their staff was watching.

The average grades for the Jaguars offensive line against the Dolphins, according to PFF, was a dismal -2.20 overall, -1.72 on pass blocking, and a -0.72 on run blocking. That's for a quarterback who was never sacked and hit just four times. None graded out in the green overall and only one player (Jermey Parnell) graded better than a -1.0.

When I watched the offensive line, all I saw were good things. Blake Bortles was rarely pressured and had all the time in the world to throw. With that protection, Bortles put up career numbers and led the offense down the field, and ultimately, to win. And while run blocking was a problem, they still opened holes for T.J. Yeldon and his 25 carries in the run game, helping the Jaguars amass 123 yards on the ground.

So, why did PFF give the Jaguars offensive line such a poor grade? Well, they counted 12 hurries for Bortles throughout the game, which might seem like a lot. I think 12 hurries might be an over-counting on their part, but even so... any hurries Bortles endured were during a game where he threw for 273 yards, passed for two touchdowns, ran for 27 yards, and orchestrated five plays of 20 or more yards.

Unfortunately, PFF didn't give any explanation for their grading, so we might never know their reasoning. Bottom line, however, is the offensive line looked great.

All in all, disregarding the poor (and short-sighted, in my opinion) grades from Pro Football Focus, it's finally starting to look like we can be confident in the Jaguars' offensive line.

Former Dolphins defensive lineman and newly signed free agent Jared Odrick admitted it felt personal going into Sunday's matchup against the team that decided not to re-sign him.

The Jacksonville Jaguars class of 2015 free agents showed up in a big way in their 23-20 win against the Miami Dolphins. Jermey Parnell has been a bully since he got here, Sergio Brown won the starting safety position, Dan Skuta has been in on several key stops (including the final third down yesterday)...

And Jared Odrick has provided versatility and strength along a depleted Jaguars defensive line.

Leading up to their game against the Dolphins, Odrick didn't give a hint as to how personal this matchup was. It was his former team -- the club that drafted him and then let him walk -- but Odrick wasn't going to make that the headline before Sunday.

After Sunday? Let it rip, Jared.

"I have to tell you guys that I was lying the whole week. I was just lying all week. Yeah, it did feel kind of personal. I grinded all week and I was very excited. It feels good to say that we got a win. I’ve just got to thank my teammates for being able to put me in this position."

And Odrick made the most of his opportunities. Probably his most important play of the game was a pressure up the middle, forcing Ryan Tannehill to throw it out of bounds on third down. The Dolphins were driving and a touchdown looked like a good possibility. But Odrick forced the pressure and throwaway, meaning Miami would only get three points right before halftime.

Or did it? Odrick's pressure forced a field goal attempt that went wide left and the Dolphins finished their drive with nothing to show for it.

Blake Bortles and Allen Robinson connected for 145 yards and two touchdowns in the first half and the defense played well enough in the second half to preserve a win.

The Jacksonville Jaguars got a hot start on offense and even though momentum came to a grinding halt in the second half, a drive in the final minutes of the fourth quarter led by Blake Bortles gave the home team a 23-20 win.

It was a tale of two halves for the Jaguars, accumulating 20 points before halftime thanks to two touchdowns and 145 yards receiving for Allen Robinson. In the second half, the Jaguars had a string of three consecutive three-and-out drives, which could have been four if the Dolphins didn't go on a streak of penalties.

Miami finished with 13 penalties for well over 100 yards, including a few that killed drives on offense, extended drives for the Jaguars and set up Jason Myers for field goals at the ends of both halves.

It was the offense that gave the Jaguars the first half win and the defense that did just well enough to keep the game within reach in the second half until the offense finally came to life with less than two minutes remaining.

Player of the game: Allen Robinson

The Jaguars will go as far as Bortles takes them, but performances like Robinson's can certainly help a young passer out. He made a couple strong plays when Bortles threw balls up for grabs and torched the Miami secondary for a long touchdown in the second quarter.

At halftime, Robinson had five receptions for 145 yards and two touchdowns. He slowed down in the second half, adding only 10 more yards to his total, but when all was said and done, it was the best receiving performance for any Jaguars player over the last decade with the exception of a certain 2012 first round pick who no longer exists.

Biggest concern: The pass rush

Yes, this is the same concern I wrote last week. Even though the Jaguars were a mess offensively in Week 1 and went ice cold in Week 2, the pass rush was the long-term concern against the Carolina Panthers and it was an even bigger factor against the Dolphins, as Ryan Tannehill racked up 359 yards in a mostly clean pocket all day.

The only player who managed to pressure Tannehill on an even semi-consistent basis was Jared Odrick, who very well could have been named the player of the game thanks to his late-game heroics. Ryan Davis managed to get a hit on Tannehill that forced an incompletion and one blitz got home, but the Jaguars really better hope that Sen'Derrick Marks is ready to make an impact when he returns to the field and maybe cross their fingers that Andre Branch can get to the passer too because right now, opposing quarterbacks are looking comfortable.

Unsung hero: Stefan Wisniewski

Ndamukong Suh is not an easy assignment and keeping Blake Bortles off the turf has been difficult for the Jaguars offensive line. Coming into Sunday, the Jaguars allowed Bortles to get sacked four or more times in eight consecutive games.

Yet with Suh expected to wreak havoc in the interior, the offensive line instead did a great job bulldozing ahead in the rushing game and keeping Bortles upright all game. The second-year quarterback was hardly touched, let alone sacked, and while Wisniewski got hit with a pair of holding calls, it was still a great effort against one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL.

Stat of the game: 102.2 passer rating

Entering Week 2, Bortles had a grand total of zero games with a passer rating in triple digits. His previous best was a 96.4 tallied against the Cincinnati Bengals in a 33-22 loss in 2014.

It was only the fourth game of Bortles' career that didn't include an interception -- although he nearly threw one just before halftime -- and in the other three interception-free games, he threw a combined two touchdowns.

While the offense had its struggles in the second half, Bortles still avoided the big mistake which has plagued him for most of his career and that certainly counts for something when he accrues nearly 300 yards passing and a couple touchdowns to go with it.

What's next?

For the first time since the very beginning of the 2011 season, the Jaguars will enter a game without a losing record (Week 1 doesn't count, wise guy). After back-to-back home games, the Jaguars will hit the road to face the New England Patriots. Even after a big win against the Dolphins, the Jaguars will definitely enter Gillette Stadium as huge underdogs against the defending Super Bowl champions.

When the Jaguars face off against the Dolphins in Sunday, which individual matchup could ultimately win or lose the game for the Jaguars?

After a disappointing Week 1 loss, the Jacksonville Jaguars need to bounce back and play a good game against the Dolphins. While it will be a battle between the two teams on each side of the ball, I'm looking for a specific individual matchup that could potentially make-or-break the game for Jacksonville.

But "individual matchups" does not necessarily mean just two players facing off against each other. It could be the Jaguars pass rush vs. Ryan Tannehill, Allen Robinson vs. Brent Grimes, and more.

My individual matchup of the week is the Jaguars offensive line vs. the Dolphins defensive line, specifically the left side of the line with likely starter left tackle Sam Young and left guard Zane Beadles against Dolphins defensive linemen.

Jaguars OL vs. Dolphins DL:

The Jaguars starting offensive line consists of left tackle Luke Joeckel, left guard Zane Beadles, center Stefen Wisniewski, right guard Brandon Linder, and right tackle Jermey Parnell. That's not a bad line by any stretch of the imagination, but Joeckel is questionable this week with an ankle injury, and Sam Young might start in his place (sigh).

Backup swing lineman Luke Bowanko has had a good week of practice according to Gus Bradley and we could see some of him on Sunday.

The Dolphins have a scary defensive line, with defensive ends Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon, and defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh and Earl Mitchell. Last season, these four defensive linemen put together a total of 28.5 sacks.

How the Jaguars can win the matchup:

Really, the only problem I see with the Jaguars offensive line is the left tackle position. That cannot be take lightly, however. My personal opinion on left tackle Luke Joeckel is that he simply isn't strong enough, physically or mentally, to play left tackle in the NFL. Sam Young, who might start due to Joeckel's ankle injury, is even worse.

Other than that, I think the line is sturdy enough to hold up against the Dolphins defensive line. I personally would love to see Bowanko get some snaps along the offensive line.

If the Jaguars offensive line can create gaps for running backs T.J. Yeldon and Denard Robinson, as well as protect Blake Bortles, then I think the Jaguars can win this ball game offensively. Another good idea might be to use the right side of the line predominately throughout the game, with Parnell and Linder carrying the load. Or just run away from Suh.

The Dolphins secondary has been weakened by injury, and their linebacker group shouldn't be considered a serious threat either.

In short, if the Jaguars can shut down the Dolphins defensive line, I can see Week 2 being a win for Jacksonville.
