Observations and musings from Week 6 of the Jaguars regular season.

1) When is enough, enough?

The Jaguars find a new way to lose every week. It is honestly incredible at this point. One week the D gives up 35+ points, one week the offense scores 13 points and this week? The entire team was bad. Each week you think the team has hit rock bottom, they do their best to show you that there is a point where it truly can get worse.

2) Why didn't the coaches adjust to Hopkins?

I am not gonna kill Davon House for Hopkins' performance. House won his share of battles vs Hopkins, but in the 2nd half he just exploded. He is easily a top 5 WR in the NFL this season and Sunday was the biggest reminder yet. You knew every 3rd down pass was going to him. He still caught it. You knew every red zone pass was going to go to him. He still caught 2 TDs. He made 2-3 catches that I am not sure any other WR in the whole league makes. With that said, why did the Jaguars not change their scheme even once? Why did House never get any safety help? Why was Hopkins never doubled on 3rd down?

3) Happy for Marks.

I didn't expect Marks to make an impact Sunday. Frankly, I didn't expect him to make an impact all season. But it was clear after just a few snaps that, while he is clearly not his old self, he is still an effective player. He drew a big holding penalty while being doubled and was frequently int he backfield. There aren't many players on the team that are worth rooting for more than Marks.

4) Blake and Julius have to get on the same page.

Julius had an OK game. He scored his first TD and got a lot of targets, showing that they want to feed him the ball on 3rd down and red zone situations. But he also had 2 drops and was the target on 2 of Bortles 3 INTs, both looking like they had miscommunication. The Jaguars need Julius to be a dominant player for better or worse, and for that to happen they need him and Bortles to get on the same page quickly.

5) I don't know what the bench clearing was all about.

But I am happy some players are showing some fire and not just rolling over. Not sure if we'll ever know why Marks, Odrick, etc. flipped out, but I don't really care either.

Enough is enough. The Jaguars have started 1-5 and are 8-30 in the tenure of Gus Bradley It's time to make a move.

The Jacksonville Jaguars move to 1-5 on the season, once again looking listless and dropping their fourth game in a row. Not only did they drop their fourth game in a row, but they lost their third game in a row against another bad team where they very well probably should have won the game.

It's time to fire head coach Gus Bradley. It's just not working.

I just sat at my desk for five minutes trying to think of all the reasons to list why Bradley should be fired, but I mean... Do I really need to explain it at this point? It's just not working. During the Gus Bradley era, the team is 8-30 and they're starting another season under water. The team continues to make the same mistakes they've been making all season through the first five games. It's not working.

This isn't to absolve general manager Dave Caldwell of blame, either. He's made his fair share of mistakes, but at this point I think it's pretty clear the Jaguars have at least average talent overall. There are certainly deficiencies on the roster that need to be addressed, but they appear to be underachieving.

You just went through playing an Andrew Luck-less Indianapolis Colts, rookie turnover machine Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Brian Hoyer with the Houston Texans. You went 0-3 in that stretch. Up next is likely the EJ Manuel led Buffalo Bills and I have no idea how they're supposed to win, so 0-4 is staring you right in the face in the easiest stretch of games you'll have all season.

Bradley routinely appears to get out coached in games and constantly sounds utterly confused afterwards. Last week he essentially said he's going to change who he is as a coach on the practice field, which never works, and today he had this gem:

Gus: "We have to evaluate and differentiate between solid performance and fluff, to be honest." #Jaguars

I mean, come on Gus. Your entire mantra is fluff. You blow smoke up everyone's ass about getting better and winning isn't important. Nah. Winning is the most important thing and you're bad at it. You're literally all fluff.

He proved that last week after the Buccaneers loss when there were literally zero changes made anywhere. He kept status quo and expected things to change. Shockingly, they didn't.

Firing Gus Bradley now, with a trip to London on the horizon, isn't likely and it's not an easy fix. Simply canning him mid-season won't fix everything. It will give you a good idea however, on if it's coaching or talent. I think it's about 75 percent coaching and 25 percent talent at this point. I'm resigned to the fact that Caldwell is probably going to get a second coach, and to be honest that's not a big deal. I think he's done okay for the most part, and I tend to think Bortles is going to end up pretty good overall, and that's the real key to Caldwell.

I mean, what is playing out the string really going to accomplish with Bradley here? To get to a 6-10 record the team would have to go .500 during the rest of the way and that seems completely impossible at this point. Hell, seeing another win on the schedule with what they've just gone through seems impossible at this point.

All last week I heard local media tell fans, and me, that it was a knee-jerk reaction and wanting Bradley fired was being unreasonable, which is a load of bullshit. You also heard radio people tell you bringing up Gus Bradley's overall record, which is 8-30 now, was ignorant and irrelevant. That's also bullshit. It's completely relevant now, because they seem to be regressing.

Sure, wipe out season one if you want, they were rebuilding and blew it up. They won less games the next season and look to be on pace to win less this year.

It's not working and Gus Bradley isn't the answer.

The Jaguars have lost to Matt Hasselbeck, Jameis Winston, and now Brian Hoyer in consecutive weeks. I'm so tired.

The Jacksonville Jaguars lost aa-aa to the Houston Texans on Sunday. Just like they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the Sunday before that. And the Indianapolis Colts the Sunday before that. And the New England Patriots the Sunday before...

You probably get it.

Through six weeks of the season, the Jaguars have been a wildly inconsistent team. If the offense is playing well, the defense is giving up 200 yards on the ground. Jason Myers kicks 58-yard game-winning field goals one week and then misses two of them two weeks later.

But one thing that has been consistent through every game (except the loss to the Patriots) is that we played to our competition for nearly the entire game. We don't set the tone. We let the opposing team lead and we follow, whether it's an offensive shootout with the Buccaneers, a defensive slugfest with the Colts, or a lukewarm everything against the Panthers.

And today was no different.

The first half was nearly an identical drive-for-drive match between the teams. After punts on the opening drives came touchdowns on the second drive, and then a field goal by the Texans. After that were punts by both teams and then a last-minute interception on a tipped pass in the red zone. At halftime, the Texans led 10-7, but to anyone who'd watched any Jaguars games this year knew a three-point gap was bigger than simply three points.

Punts were traded at the beginning of the second half until a turnover on downs by the Texans. Blake Bortles only needed four plays to get to a wide open Julius Thomas and the first lead of the game for the Jaguars.

That lead lasted only three minutes and 45 seconds.

Brian Hoyer, a guy who was deemed worse than Ryan Mallett, drove 81 yards and threw to DeAndre Hopkins on a busted coverage.

From there, things went downhill. Punt by the Jaguars, touchdown by the Texans. Then a pick-six interception by Bortles for a Texans touchdown. A garbage time touchdown almost made the final score look respectable, but then a last-minute interception finished it out.

The lack of a running game is a crippling thing for a coach who wants to be a possession team. Without Bortles' runs, the Jaguars had just 46 yards on 17 carries. But Yeldon was out all week. You couldn't put something together with Toby Gerhart and Denard Robinson?

One of Gus Bradley's most important responsibilities is to set the tone for the game. These players are reacting to what the other team is doing. That's not good. And while the roster isn't stellar, it's not so bad that it needs to just take what the other team gives it.

So far, Bradley has just been following the tone set by every other head coach he's gone up against, and it's a major reason he'll likely be fired after the London trip next week.

The Jaguars are hosting the Texans in Week 6 of the NFL at EverBank Field. Join the Big Cat Country discussion leading up to the game, during, and after!

The Jacksonville Jaguars are hosting the Houston Texans on Sunday afternoon and if the team is to avoid another four-game losing streak under Gus Bradley (we've had quite a few of them) they'll need to take advantage of another underperforming divisional rival.

Texans head coach Bill O'Brien has named Brian Hoyer the starter (for now) and while that gives them a better quarterback in the short and intermediate game, it gives them a weaker arm in the pocket. A fair trade off for a benched Ryan Mallett who isn't very accurate at all.

Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles is doing very well in his sophomore season, throwing for 10 touchdowns against just four interceptions, and overall throwing the ball with much better mechanics and making much better pre-snap reads and decisions on his progressions.

T.J. Yeldon is a gametime decision, although I suspect he'll be ready to go. And the return of Paul Posluszny and Sen'Derrick Marks cannot be overstated. Both the run defense and pass rush say thank you.

HAPPY GAMEDAY, EVERYONE!

There are a number of good values to be had for daily fantasy games on Sunday, and Blake Bortles is definitely one of them.

If you're looking for a way to save some money in your FanDuel lineup, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles is probably the most valuable buy for a daily fantasy game in this matchup.

Bortles is still below average in FanDuel salary, despite putting up 300 yards and four touchdowns last week. Yes, he could make a stupid mistake, but the fact that he's tied for 17th with Colin Kaepernick with a $7,300 salary is absurd. Until FanDuel comes to their senses, pick him up and save a couple thousand dollars for a running back or wide receiver.

And everything is falling Bortles' way for a big game.

First, the Houston Texans are 24th in the league in terms of points given up per game with 24.0. The Jaguars try to get their running game going every week, but in the red zone it always falls to Bortles, as the Jaguars are one of two teams in the NFL with zero rushing touchdowns. With T.J. Yeldon is a gametime decision, and backups Toby Gerhart and Denard Robinson carrying the load, why would a rushing touchdown be more likely?

Second, Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson are the best wide receiver tandem in the NFL. Technically, they're two yards behind, but they make up for it with four more touchdowns. They provide Bortles with an incredible safety net for big yards.

Last, Julius Thomas is making his second appearance after coming to Tampa Bay and playing on a gametime decision. Offensive coordinator Greg Olson has had all week to gameplan around their prize free agent signing, as opposed to last week when they barely had any time at all.

If you're playing FanDuel, do yourself a favor and pick up Bortles.
